
Why we’re ditching those old bathroom heat lamps for IR rails
You know those old-school bathroom heat lamps? The ones with the bright bulbs that try to warm up the entire room? They’re kind of a waste. In a steamy bathroom, trying to heat the air is like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in the bottom. You’re spending money to warm up air that just disappears. That’s why we’ve been moving toward infrared (IR) towel rails. Instead of fighting the air, these things go straight for the target. They push heat directly into the fabric of your towel. It’s a much smarter way to do things. Dealing with the damp Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the steam and the occasional splash, most heating elements just give up, corrode, or short out. To stop that from happening, we use units with high IP ratings. Basically, it just means the electrical guts are sealed tight. No moisture gets in, no wires burn out from oxidation, and the thing actually lasts. It’s peace of mind in a place where water and electricity usually don’t mix. Instant warmth Most heaters make you wait. They warm the air, the air rises, and eventually, you might feel something. Infrared is different. It’s almost instant. You flip the switch and you feel the warmth immediately. Because the heat is so concentrated, the units can be smaller without losing any of the punch. You get a warm towel and a cozy vibe without needing a giant machine taking up wall space. A few things to keep in mind If you’re planning a renovation, don’t just plug these into a random outlet. If you’re running a couple of high-wattage rails, you’ll want a dedicated circuit so you don’t trip your breakers every time you want a warm towel. Also, be careful about where you mount them. These things get hot—really hot. If you put an IR rail against cheap plastic paneling, you’re probably going to warp your wall. Stick with ceramic or treated stone. They handle the heat way better. At the end of the day, it’s about getting rid of that “cold shock” when you step out of the shower. You get the warmth where you actually need it, and you stop paying to heat a room full of steam.
