
Stop the Bathroom Mold Before It Starts
Most people see an infrared lamp in the bathroom and just think, “Oh, a heater.” But there’s a lot more going on under the hood. We actually built these things to do two jobs at once: keep you warm and stop your walls from turning into a mold farm. Here is how it actually works. Standard heaters just warm up the air. The problem is, air moves. Infrared is different. It sends out radiant energy that hits your walls and ceiling directly. We’ve tuned the spectrum to use shortwave infrared, which basically lets the heat sink into those damp spots on your walls. It makes the water molecules vibrate and evaporate way faster than they would on their own. When you put these in the ceiling, they don’t just warm your shoulders. They hunt down those “cold spots” where condensation loves to hide. By keeping your tiles and grout warm—above what we call the dew point—the water never gets a chance to pool. And if there’s no standing water, mold spores have nowhere to land. It’s a clever way to dry things out. We aren’t sucking moisture out of the air like those bulky dehumidifiers. Instead, we’re just pushing the water right out of your building materials. But you have to get the sizing right. If you put a massive, high-wattage unit in a tiny powder room, you’re going to bake yourself. On the flip side, if the wattage is too low, the walls won’t get warm enough to stop the mold. It’s all about finding that sweet spot for your room size. One quick heads-up on the install: these lamps pack a lot of heat into a tiny space. Don’t cut corners with the housing. Cheap plastic will warp or melt under that kind of intensity. Stick with aluminum or ceramic mounts so you aren’t dealing with a ceiling disaster. Also, do yourself a favor and hook them up to a timer or a humidity sensor. It saves your filaments from burning out and keeps your electric bill from spiking.
