No More Flakes: Getting Your Cleanroom Heating Right
If you’re running a Class 100 (ISO 5) setup, you already know the nightmare. One tiny bit of particle shedding—a flake of material or a puff of outgassing—and your wafers or optical components are toast. It’s frustrating. Most standard heating elements just aren’t built for this; they break down and ruin your work. That’s why we stick with high-purity synthetic quartz infrared lamps.
Why the quartz actually matters
Here’s the thing: most glass or cheap quartz can’t handle the stress of constant heating and cooling. They start to leak metallic particles or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) the second they get hot. We use fused silica with almost zero impurities. We’ve stripped away the surface contaminants so there’s nothing left to vaporize and settle on your product. It stays clean. Period.
Heat where you want it, not everywhere
Nobody wants to accidentally trip the cleanroom HVAC sensors because the room got too hot. We tweak the filament shape and the gas fill inside the lamp to make sure the heat goes exactly where it’s supposed to. You get a fast ramp-up and a sharp cutoff. It’s precise, which makes your whole workflow a lot smoother.
Getting them installed (and keeping them alive)
These are designed to be drop-in replacements for your current IR arrays. We also use specific connectors so you don’t have to worry about oxidation or arcing—because the last thing you need is metallic dust floating around your clean zone. But, a fair warning: high-purity quartz is a bit more brittle than the stuff you’re used to. Please, tell your team: no bare hands. Skin oils create hot spots on the glass, and that’s the fastest way to burn out a lamp. Use lint-free gloves and a bit of isopropyl alcohol for cleaning. Also, just double-check that your cooling system can handle the radiant heat spill. It saves you a lot of headaches down the road.
