
Keeping Things Safe When Using IR Heat in Chemical Zones
If you’re upgrading a fab clean room—specifically those chemical cleaning stations—you know the deal. You’re working with volatile solvents and flammable vapors. In that kind of environment, a standard infrared lamp isn’t just a tool; it’s a liability. One tiny spark or a hairline crack in a quartz tube, and you’ve got a disaster on your hands. We don’t take those odds. That’s why we stopped using open-element heating and switched to hermetically sealed encapsulation.
How the seal actually works
We don’t just wrap the lamp in some plastic and call it a day. We use a double-barrier system. First, the IR emitter sits inside a high-purity quartz sleeve. Then, we tuck that whole thing inside a chemically resistant, explosion-proof outer jacket. We seal the end-caps with industrial-grade epoxy or specialized gaskets. Here’s the peace of mind part: if the inner lamp burns out or the quartz cracks, the outer shell stays intact. It keeps those flammable vapors far away from the live electrical parts.
Dealing with heat and stability
Now, there’s a trade-off. Because the lamp is sealed up, you lose a bit of that direct radiative punch you get from a bare tube. To fix that, we tune the wattage. We make sure your substrate hits the exact temperature it needs without turning the outer casing into an oven. But you have to get your cooling airflow right. If you don’t vent the enclosure or use a heat sink, the heat just builds up around the seal. Over time, that can eat away at the sealant. You don’t want that.
Getting it installed in the fab
We designed these to be drop-in replacements. No need to rebuild your whole line. The wiring runs through flame-retardant conduits and finishes with explosion-proof glands. It kills the risk of arcing at the connection points. Plus, we use gold or nickel-plated contacts. Why? Because the aggressive chemical fumes in cleaning lines love to corrode everything they touch. These plates stop that from happening, keeping your resistance low and your heat output steady. It just works.
